When thinking about tools, safety is always at the top of the list before applying the tool to a job. It doesn’t take much to add safety to woodworking activities. The pictured push block, for example, was simply made from some scrap wood. It serves several purposes. It keeps hands away from the work tool and it improves quality with a sure grip to keep the wood from wandering around. In this picture the saw is not running so the block is not actually pushing yet. The bottom of the block can get scored by the blade, which is fine a few times.
Safety in our spiritual lives also can benefit from a little planning. I like how the book of Psalm starts out.
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
Psalm 1:1,2
If we are thoughtful when approaching various activities, we can avoid some problems and have better quality outcomes.
