This past Sunday on a mile-long morning walk, I noticed this proud “Vegan” window sticker on a car parked in someone’s driveway. I hadn’t noticed it before, but that’s probably because of what I saw on the uncropped photo: this car has an Oregon license plate, which probably means it’s a visitor.
Today being Sabbath, this topic is a pretty appropriate one. Sabbath is the memorial of Creation, and as Adam and Eve (if Eve was created Friday too) began their first full day of life, they were vegan. And so were birds and animals and every other living thing (Genesis 1:29 – 31)
Even though later, God did allow the consumption of clean meats, He will finally restore Eden, and there’s every indication that its inhabitants will be plant-based again.
I began life as a meat-eater, but stopped in my late 20s. And in the past couple of decades Shelley has gently guided me to where I’m almost 100% vegan. Incidentally and amazingly painlessly, I’ve lost 22 pounds over the past few years, and now am a happy 180 lbs!
And of course many folks on our complex old planet are discovering the common sense of veganism.
