One of my favorite paintings is one done by Stephen Lyman called Morning Light. The painting is of a view looking out of a window at a forest scene. On the windowsill are a couple of small vases filled with wildflowers, a pinecone, a couple of feathers, a lit candle and some branches; things you might find on a nature walk. It’s a very peaceful scene which I’ve admired ever since I first saw it framed and hanging in a gallery in an art store years ago. (The asking price was too expensive for me but we can enjoy a similar scene for free if we are looking out of a window in the right setting.)

While windows are made to generally look out of and for security from would-be thieves and protection from the elements, I came across one this past week that was made to look into (see above photo)! This view into a conservatory was at Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, and the window itself didn’t have any glass in it.

I like these verses found in Philippians:

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
Philippians 4:8-9 (The Message)
