Over the past few days, I’ve had some time off work, and it gave me a chance to do some walking outside. Regularly, starting work in the dark and finishing after dark, presents a challenge for a lot of outdoor activities. So, the break was nice, and the walks were even better. This image was captured in a wooded area near our home. The property is owned by the University of Washington and used for conservation studies. The trails are open to the public, except for motor vehicles. So, when you are meandering the miles of trails, the only things you may come across are a few people and their dogs, or the occasional horseback rider. It’s a peaceful location for sure.
When I took the image, it made me think of our Creator and the fact these creations (the trees) were climbing high into the sky, almost pointing to our Savior. We are His creations too. What if we continually looked upwards, striving to be closer to Him (like these trees)? What would our days look like? For starters, each day you are striving to be closer to Him, is going to be a far better day than if you didn’t.
We hear a lot about resolutions this time of year. Goals are good, but an adjustment to our outlook on life is even better. I know I plan on adjusting my daily sights – upwards – striving to be closer and closer to the one who created me, cares for me, loves me and longs to be with me.
The next time you have a chance to stroll around your block or neighborhood, look up, see if you can be like these trees – peering closer to your Creator.
