When it comes to rocks, they come in many different shapes and sizes. Of course, the bigger the rock, the greater the foundation to anchor to.

Take the rocks in the photo above, for example. These I found on the shore of Lake Tahoe, on the Nevada side. As you can see, these rocks aren’t going anywhere. They are massive and buried deep into the sanding shoreline.

Now this sandstone spire, found in Arches National Park, Utah, is way taller than the rocks I found on the shore of Lake Tahoe. Its foundation and its ability to hold anything anchored to it far exceeds the strengths of those measly boulders.

Finally, we see one of the largest ‘rocks’ in the United States – Mt. Rainier, WA. This particular rock stands at over 14,000 feet tall. An amazing site to behold. With all its glory and incredible girth, even this rock isn’t worthy of our anchoring.

There is only one true ROCK, in which we should anchor ourselves to, knowing He is our foundation, our fortress and salvation. David knew this as well. In fact, he wrote about this very Rock in Psalms 32.

Verses 5-8:

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God[; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

May you find the refuge, the comfort and salvation you are seeking.
