At my parent-in-laws’ house, I walked out slowly to the shop because my wife was going to follow, and I wasn’t in a hurry. About half-way I turned around to wait and saw four deer following me across the yard. My wife took these shots shortly after. Even after chatting with the deer to tell them hello, they stayed close.
After telling her parents about the deer, they mentioned regularly leaving apples in the yard. (These were fallen apples they gathered up because the deer couldn’t eat them all at once.) They finally ran out of apples, and the deer must have been checking with me about more apples.
It makes me think about how God can be our sanctuary. I like this verse.
Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Psalm 97:10
We may not see the hand of God doing things for us, but we can see the evidence. In a world where we hear about violence regularly, we can be confident that God knows about us and cares for us. Let’s rest in his goodness and peace as we humbly live our lives.
