This picture at Glacier National Park was taken while we stopped paddling to enjoy the views and quiet atmosphere. Somehow it reminded me about God’s promises in the Bible.

There are many promises and here is one.

Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.
Isaiah 55:3

The Economist magazine this week had an article about living longer. They talked about research in drugs being done for longer life. I’m not sure how real they are. It seems that drugs would not make up for poor lifestyle.

On the other hand, there are natural ways to live longer as documented by research reports on blue zones. Loma Linda California is mentioned as a blue zone. One area that doesn’t get regularly mentioned is Walla Walla, Washington. This church has members with relatives and friends in Walla Walla who have lived past age 100. It may be partially related to a supportive community of faith.

I like how the promise above says, “listen, that you may live.” How much better we all would live if everyone listened. We can’t seem to force listening, which would be bad. But maybe we can encourage, and through encouragement support each other.
