Contrast can have a very compelling effect when it comes to images. Take this image for example, the bright red and yellow leaves of the shrub, against the dark grays of the stump, provide quite the division, in color, texture and the image itself. It reminds me a bit of the world we live in today. On one hand, just about everywhere we look, we see darkness, we see pain and suffering. On the other hand, we are constantly reminded of the love and joy we receive from our Savior. Nature is a perfect example of that, an amazing reminder of creation and what God had planned from the beginning.
In John 8:12, we can read Jesus’ words on this very topic,
“Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “ I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
What a comforting thought. Jesus is the light in the dark AND when we choose to follow Him, we can escape that darkness. In turn we can show others that same gift of lightness. We can both absorb and reflect the light that God gives us. It’s the gift that continues to give. Thank you, God!
