I saw this little harbor seal pup when I was walking on the Fishing Pier in Edmonds. There were actually two little pups resting on this wooden walkway that went around a salmon research pen. The seals were wild and quite small and probably recently weaned.

They also seemed quite tired. This one kept yawning and the other one appeared to be asleep. This was probably as safe a place as any. Predators were not likely to get to them here and people were not likely to get close enough to touch them where they were. (There were plenty of people looking down at them from the pier, though.)

They also may have been hungry and I’m sure they could smell the salmon on the other side of the net. Unfortunately, they had no way of getting to them.

Jesus said that we could come to Him when we need rest:

“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (NCV)
