Today’s photo was taken from the flanks of Mt. Rainier. Climbing a large, glaciated mountain can help you understand that you are a mere speck on the earth. Expand the view to the milky way galaxy and you will feel yourself shrinking even more. Consider then God’s entire creation, the innumerable galaxies, and all the worlds that exist within them. Only then will you begin to understand how small you really are. The following verses may provide context:

  • “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3 KJV).
  • ”Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding” (Isaiah 40:28 KJV).
  • “Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?” (Job 26:14 KJV).
  • “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Psalm 8:3-4 KJV).

I hope today’s photo and commentary provide some perspective on what Jesus did to save us. How Vast is His Love may have been a more fitting title. My insignificance is significant to Him! He is mindful, so very mindful of you and me.
