This time of year, in the Pacific Northwest (and other locations) there is a lot of talk about the flowering cherry trees and when they are in bloom. Locally, the University of Washington’s Seattle campus is known for being a great spot to view dozens of trees holding thousands of blossoms. These particular images weren’t taken on that campus, but our very own front yard. We have a few trees that bloom and when the light captures the light pink petals, it’s something to see.
As gorgeous as this site can be, it’s temporary. Once the blossoms have opened, it’s only a matter of time before they’ll float gently to the ground below. The weather can speed or slow that process, but in the end, eventually, the blossoms will be gone.
It may seem I am attempting to paint a negative scenario, but that isn’t the case. Let’s read in Isaiah 40:7 & 8 and learn why the falling flowers are actually a reminder of something that doesn’t go away.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.
From this verse we see there are several things that are temporary, including grass, flowers and even people. What isn’t temporary – enduring forever – is the word of God. The things around us, on Earth, aren’t what we should be spending our time and energy on. Our Creator and the relationship with Him is where our energy is best served.
As the weather adjusts and the flowers start to fade, remember our God doesn’t leave – He’s ALWAYS there.
