I saw this dragonfly in Magnuson Park in Seattle several years ago. (Magnuson Park, with at least 19 species, is THE place to see dragonflies in the Seattle area) I think it might be a female Western Pondhawk and I don’t think I have ever seen such a green dragonfly before!

You may have sung the song “All Things Bright and Beautiful” in Sabbath School or Sunday School when you were a child. The lyrics were written by Cecil Frances Alexander in Ireland around 1848 and they were initially published in a hymnbook for children. You may also have seen a lot of the lines as titles to books by James Herriott, who was a British veterinarian.

All Things Bright and Beautiful

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
the Lord God made them all.

1. Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colors,
and made their tiny wings.
(Refrain)

2. The purple-headed mountains,
the river running by,
the sunset and the morning
that brightens up the sky.
(Refrain)

3. The cold wind in the winter,
the pleasant summer sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden:
God made them every one.
(Refrain)

4. God gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty,
who has made all things well.
(Refrain)

I like these Bible verses that talk about our Creator:

Have you never heard?
Have you never understood?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Isaiah 40:28-29 (NLT)
