I went on a short drive yesterday looking for buttercups, yellow bells and bluebirds. I did find buttercups, lots of them, but no bluebirds (mountain or western) were to be seen as I drove along a stretch of road lined with bluebird boxes; not even a tree swallow.

I did see one meadowlark and some quails and a flicker, though. I also saw these spring beauty flowers, in small little bunches. The flowers are maybe a bit smaller across than a dime and fairly low to the ground.

Life is like that sometimes. We don’t always get what we plan or hope for but the unexpected can be amazing and even better.
