This past Tuesday, paused in a line of traffic, I noticed this Porsche just ahead of me. Fiscal issues have so arranged themselves that it wouldn’t do me much good to keep a close and observant eye on this particular brand of car, because—if new—the hatchback above might set me back a bit over $100,000.

However, once I’d fixed my eyes on this car’s brand name, and reverently acknowledged its worth, I noticed that this Porsche is dirty! A backwash of dust has become caked to its hatchback door and bumper. (I’ve blotted out the license plate for privacy’s sake.) Usually when I see a high-end auto motoring along, it is waxed and gleaming. But this one’s driver has other priorities.

Years ago, one of my denomination’s publishers got in touch with me and asked if I would write a 6,000-word pamphlet describing Bible advice on staying healthy. As I worked, I wondered what the title should be. I don’t remember who chose the title, me or the publisher (because they’re generally better at titles than I am), but what finally appeared on the cover was Treat Your Body Like a Porsche. The booklet is long out of print, but the cover sported a photo of the latest model.

My plot, of course, was that our bodies, created by God, are God’s Porsches. He has poured breathtaking quality into each of our features—mind, hearing system, aroma detection, tasting abilities, and much more. We are worth a lot—and of course we are worth life itself to the One who gave His for ours.

Just recently I heard about someone I know who was ordered by the doctor to make some lifestyle changes. This person took the advice seriously.

I happen to have the good fortune—make that providential intervention—to be married to someone who has learned how to create staggeringly tasty cuisine while keeping it Eden-like nutritious. So as you click on the link just below, I can certify that I am able to follow these Bible health principles with true joy. Check them out.
