A week ago, at the back of our church sanctuary, Shelley caught sight of the above scene and pointed it out to me. I quickly pulled out my smartphone and snapped the photo.
I happen to know that those two little foot-shadows beneath the pew belong to a five-year-old girl whose family brings her faithfully to church nearly every week. When the time comes to pick up the Children’s Offering (which will help fund the Vacation Bible School she’ll attend in a couple of months), she leaps to her feet with other kids and roves cheerfully around the room with a wicker basket, and her collection-zeal often makes her linger longer than any other child! When Children’s Story happens, she’s almost always on the front row, alertly focused on the storyteller.
I don’t know whether, in her Sabbath School room, they still sing the song whose lyrics you’ll find in the next paragraph. But I do know that because of her family’s faithful church attendance, her little feet are very familiar with her Heavenly Father and His house!
Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go,
Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go.
There’s a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little feet, where you go.
