I saw this male rufous hummingbird at this feeder at the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary several years ago. Sadly, they have since moved the location of the feeder and I haven’t been able to get as close and in such a good position for a close up since.
I was watching hummingbirds at a different feeder a few weeks ago. Several different birds, including a male rufous, were sharing the feeder that I was watching and none of them seemed particularly concerned about their food source. (I’ve seen male rufous hummingbirds claim one feeder for themselves. They’ll perch in a nearby spot where they can keep an eye on it and dive bomb any other hummingbird that dares to go for a drink.)
I like these verses from Matthew in The Message:
“If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds. Matthew 6:25-26 (The Message)
