I’ve always enjoyed capturing water images. Just think of some of the possibilities — waterfalls, snow, icicles, steam, clouds, rain drops, ice, streams, waves, and even small rivers like the one you see here. With all these options, you can capture some images with very crisp focus, or you can allow for the imagery of motion to take over the shot. Maybe you find yourself fascinated as much with similar shots, then again maybe it’s just me. Either way, I’ll keep looking for my next H2O opportunity.
Depending on which translation of the Bible is your “go to,” you can find a reference to water over 600 times. Why? What’s the big deal with water? Well, for starters it’s referenced during creation, multiple times. In some ways, it’s like a starting point – separation of water and land. It gives nutrients to the plants and animals in the Garden of Eden. Then we get into the story of Noah — we know what water did during that time. The majority of the planet, post-flood, is water. The Bible talks of springs and wells, as a source of life to people and their livestock. Then the Israelites needed it as a way of escape. Miracles with water — walking on it, moving it, transforming it. The first followers of Jesus — many of them being fishermen. Baptisms. The list goes on and on.
In John 4, we see one of the most powerful references of water. Jesus, sitting at a well, asking for a drink. In fact, society wouldn’t have allowed the two of them to be in discussion at all. Yet, the water Jesus asks for was just a conversation starter for His TRUE water, the living water!
(v. 10) “Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
Water is everywhere (for most of us). It comes in all shapes and sizes. We drink it, we see it, we hear it and we can travel on it. As much as that sounds wonderful, the water we should be most focused on, is the Living Water from our Savior. Thank you God, for all the water You have provided us!
