Are you surprised? Given it’s Valentine’s Day, I figured I should embrace the day and share a bit about the topic. I do love basketball (not as much as football), but that’s not why I share this image. Instead, I share this image, for the two “loves” captured here. First, you can see the one who is dunking (which he loves to do), my 3-year-old grandson. Just to the right of him (you can see her through the netting) is my 1.5-year-old granddaughter, waiting her turn to get close to the rim (plastic and much shorter to a regulation hoop).

How does this tie to the topic of love? First off, I LOVE both of these little humans. There is something special about grandkids. I didn’t know what that something was until we welcomed them into the world. Now that they are here, moving around, laughing, smiling, screaming and just being kids – it’s magical.

God has millions of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He loves each and every one of them. He loves them so much; He was willing to sacrifice something so near and dear to His heart – His SON!

John 3:16 & 17 –

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish fur have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

I recognize you have heard and read this verse many, many times. That said, I want you to read it again, and when it says “one and ONLY Son” – pause. Think about that – One and ONLY. For those that have children, have had children or are influencers in a child’s life – that statement really hits home, doesn’t it? When you only have one of something, it’s very precious to you. What if that something is a life? Even more precious, right? Well, that’s what God had – One and ONLY. Yet, He was willing to give His Son, for us – for our sins, so we could have the gift of life. If that isn’t the best description of what LOVE is, I don’t know what is.

How fortunate WE are to have the hope of something beyond this planet AND while we are here, to be able to experience the love of others. I know I am very thankful to have these two basketball players in my life and thank God every day for them. I love being their “Pops”! I love God for bringing them into my life and love Him even more for caring for them, when I’m not around. Thank you, God!
