This photo is about three years old, and I have totally forgotten where I was when I took it. At first I thought this gate might have been blocking the way to the Lake Youngs reservoir. But if you’ll look at the left edge of the photo, you’ll see a house, and there are no houses—only water district buildings—within the lake’s compound.

Whatever it is that needs protecting, the protector ignored the rusty chain, which might not be long enough anyway, and went to a store and bought a new chain, a gold one.

This makes me think of how often money chains us in our lives. Though God invented gold, He uses it for pavement and not payment, and has had to insert a lot of pointed instruction into Scripture warning against the deceitfulness of riches.
