Sabbath and Sunday, December 9 and 10, 2023
What you see in the photo is a monitor in our church foyer. Every Sabbath as soon as they arrive, the greeters turn it on and start a PowerPoint slide show featuring the faces of our church family. It’s a delightful way to learn to recognize who we’re worshipping with.
This weekend, after the service had concluded and people were mostly gone, I noticed the slide show was still playing. So I got the remote and turned the screen off—or thought I had. When I looked at the monitor again, I saw this mournful message: “Unable to connect to network.”
I snapped this picture of this monitor (do you see my face?) before I hit the remote’s “Off” button—this time successfully—because I thought how ironic it was that this screen, which has done so well at “networking” friends, was temporarily unable to do so.
Shelley and I got home a couple of hours ago from a hugely successful “game night,” to which several families and individuals had gathered by driving through winter rain. But everybody had a stupendous time, as we played games together, told stories, and got to know each other better.
God knows that deepening friendships are important, and that’s why He’s said a lot about them in the Bible. Click the following links for inspiration:
