I don’t know if you can recall a time in your life when you know for sure you were protected by your guardian angel. I know I can recall a few different times. I also know my grandson had one of these encounters just recently. He was in his highchair, having dinner and video chatting with us, when his tray was removed and before his dad could get him out of the chair, Hugh unbuckled himself and fell. For a 2.5-year-old, falling straight down to the floor could have been really bad. He was injured, but it could have been much worse. I believe his guardian angel softened the fall for sure.
Of course, an “injury free” result, or no fall at all would have been much better, but it does show us the protection we receive – sometimes not even knowing it. It’s not like in instances like these, we have the chance to ask for the protection, as the event is happening. No, God takes care of that. The protection is an “auto-protection” versus the kind you get ONLY if you ask for it. Now, there are plenty of examples of people getting really hurt. Do I think their guardian angel chose not to help them at that moment? No. I believe there are circumstances we don’t understand and can only get those answers from God (or directly from our angel in heaven). There are also many times where there is definite protection.
Psalms 91:9-13 (NIV)
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
Take the time to read the full chapter in Psalms, but for now, I’ve bolded the one verse that really gives us the comfort of protection. According to the author, God will command his angels to protect/guard us, in all our ways. Wow, what a promise!
As you can see from the image, Hugh is a happy, healthy (dare I say cautious) little man. I thank God for the guardian angel protecting him, in all he does. Let’s be on the lookout for those times we are protected and didn’t even have to ask for it. Thank you, God!
