Recently I had the chance to travel to the “other side of the mountains,” which in my case was traveling from the Seattle area of Washington to Ellensburg, Washington. This drive, over Snoqualmie Pass, was to attend a destination wedding. While attending, I captured this image, of the nearly setting sun peering through the panes of glass, crafted into this wall you see. The wall was more of an ambiance set, rather than an actual home. Regardless, it was a beautiful sight and it made me think of Jesus’ words in John.

John 8:12 (NIV)

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

It’s hard for me to relate to someone that has “walked in darkness,” related to the context of this verse. I, fortunately, was born and raised in a home that loved Jesus. I can, however, imagine what that “walk in darkness” may be like and I’m sure it’s not a pleasant one. When we have Jesus telling ALL of us, if we follow Him, there will be no treks in that dark place, AND we gain the light of life. Now, THAT is a promise! I may not have walked in that darkness, but I know there have been times in my life, I have experienced darkness. I also know how quickly I would prefer to get back into the light. This promise is so comforting, for those that are going through a rough time, or even for those that are already receiving the light.

Jesus provides the very light we need. He promises this light and tells us exactly what we need to do to get it – in this 22-word quote. He IS the light. If we follow, we stay in the light and retain the light. Thank you, Jesus! Let that light in.
