My daughter found a hummingbird on the ground that looked nearly dead. It didn’t move or open its eyes. She decided to bring it inside just in case. It moved ever so slightly when she put it on a dry cloth. A little later we were surprised that it was sitting up, but its eyes were still closed.
She spent several hours with the bird, regularly dipping its beak into hummingbird nectar. Gradually it started drinking and seeming more alert with some wing movement. She put it in an enclosed box for the night with a stick and a little more nectar. The next morning, she took the box outside and found it sitting on the stick. As soon as the box was open, the hummingbird flew away into the bushes.
It reminded me of one of my favorite promises.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
John 10:27,28
It is a great comfort that Jesus has us safe in his hand. We know that we have troubles on this Earth, but some day it will become clear. The things we do matter tremendously. But no one can take us away from our heavenly father’s love.
