Last week we welcomed a new addition to our family. Our daughter has graciously provided us another grandchild. I don’t consider myself to be a “baby person.” It’s not that I don’t like babies, it’s just that I am very cautious around them and find myself worried about them more than if they were up and running around the house. I’ve raised my own two children, so it’s not like it’s a foreign process to me, but being the grandparent (“Pops” in my case), it’s different caring for a grandchild. Maybe it should be easier, given it’s a chance to do it all over again, kind of like a redo – a new start.

This particular image struck me when I took it, as well as when I was selecting it for this moment. I remember it was a few months back (most likely winter), in our backyard as I was out with our dog, allowing him to sniff around the grass in the morning. As you can see, a beautiful sunrise was happening. What you can’t see in the distance are the Cascade Mountains. As the sun was starting to creep over the range, the clouds were starting to light up. There is something about a sunrise like this. Except for being up early (most likely around 6AM), the colors, the clean sky, the warmth – it all has that “new start” feel.

Whether we are talking about a day or a child, God provides all to us. He gives us that new start we need. Whatever you are needing a new start in, ask God to provide it for you. Listen to Him and know His plan is the correct plan. Maybe we don’t get what we want instantly, but down the road we will recognize He provided exactly what we needed, when we needed it.

So, the next time you see a newborn, or a gorgeous sunrise, think of God’s plan in your life and all the new starts He has provided.
