In this yard near Castle Rock, WA a mother deer makes her first appearance with two fawns. At least it was the first time anyone at the house had seen them. This trio made quite an impression as they timidly entered the yard and then quickly made their way across. My phone camera only managed a fuzzy image after zooming in as much as possible.

It made me think of first encounters. I remember my first encounters with my own kids. It is interesting to see how they still have a little of their personalities from those first days.

I remember times when my prayers were answered, and I figure those are like first encounters with God. David talked about God answering prayers.

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Psalm 17:6

We can still pray and ask God to answer our prayers. It may be in ways we don’t expect, but in those answers, we encounter God.

It is fun to think about the first time we have encountered people we know. And likewise, we can think about the ways God has looked out for us.
