Normally our chickens are not big fans of water, but they enjoyed bucket baths during the high heat this week. They were in the house in a large box during the hottest times. It is interesting to see the ways people find to help animals and other people. For example, a bear in our neighborhood borrowed someone’s pond to cool down. In that case, they didn’t know they were helping an animal until it happened.
Sometimes it takes effort and planning. At Sunset Lake they planned how to keep horses hydrated and cool. The staff had mandatory cool downs before and after going to the barn for short visits and only in groups.
It is a good time to count our blessings, which usually are much more numerous than problems. A few blessing that come to mind are running water, ice, air-conditioning (anywhere it can be found), shade trees, and prayer.
We can always turn to God in prayer no matter the situation whether it is a heat wave or a celebration, like for the cooler weather we are now enjoying. Let’s continue to pray in all our activities and continue to count our blessings.
