On the way to a Bible study a couple of Tuesdays ago, I acted like a homing pigeon and stopped at a thrift store on the way. Down one of the aisles I spotted this little boy playing with a couple of toys. But I caught him too late for the perfect shot.

As you can see, he’s holding a plastic sword. When I first saw him, he was valiantly hacking at a large rubber snake. But by the time I got my camera out, he had turned away from the serpent and was heading back to the toy shelf to see what else was there.

Here’s a closeup of the luckless viper:

As you can see, the boy is basically treading it underfoot. In fact—though we can’t see what he’s doing with his left hand—he probably has a grip on that snake and is going to fling it back onto the toy shelf.

I know another Boy who will mortally damage another snake. In what is probably the Bible’s first Messiah prophecy, Genesis 3:15 predicts that a descendant of Eve will damage the serpent’s head.
