Backpacking can be hot and tiring. There doesn’t seem to be a hike that isn’t uphill both directions! So it is especially nice to arrive at a destination, find a camp, and then have a chance to get refreshed with a nice dip in a lake. This picture includes another authentic aspect of backpacking: a bug that happened to be flying by.
In everyday life, the Lord wants us to be regularly refreshed, so He provided the Sabbath.
“It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.” Exodus 31:17
The Sabbath is a wonderful gift that refreshes every week. It is so regular that our GPS satellites keep time internally by counting the weeks, and how many seconds we are into the current week.
Let’s take advantage of Sabbaths to make them refreshing like a cool dip in a lake.
